Finding and Evaluating Research Material

Hi friends !

How are you today ? Hope everyone is fine and have a good mood today. After the first post about the plagiarism then I want to write about the evaluating research material. I get this article from www.google.com.

In this article , the author are more focused on the evaluating the research material. There are three sources material that can be used in writing academic researh, report and assignment which are website, book and article.

We can use website to complete our task. But not all website provide valid information. We must see the content on that website first either they are reliable or not , valid or outdated , the content provided is original or reproduced. If the content is reproduced you must search and find either it have permission statement or not. Reliable can be divide into two which are more reliable or less reliable. For the example of less reliable are discussion forum , blog and also yahoo answer. We still can read about the information written on that website but we cannot used that facts in our research .Besides that we can use search engine such as bing.com and google.com in order to retrieve information quickly. As we all know, search engine provide specific references and  information , general facts and  the information about specific people or even an organization.

Then the second example of sources material is book. Now our government have distributed a lot of money to improve students and child learning. For the students in university , they have a lots of advantages where they can find book , article , journal , government document easily through library catalog. For example, for the UITM students , they can use ezaccess to find the materials needed. Not all students know about this facility. Here I provide the link connected to ezaccess. www.ezaccess.library.uitm.edu.my . When we evaluate the book , we must look for the authority, who wrote and publish that book. After that, look for the currency and the accuracy either the book we read is free from errors or not , the syllabus are outdated or in current syllabus. These will make sure that the book used is valid and can be used.

For the last example of sources material is article. When we entering university level , article become compulsory materials needed in doing research. Newpapers , academic journal and magazine are the example of articles. We can find article through search engine , library catalog or even through electronic access such as ezaccess. We can evaluate the journal articles by looking for the sources , authority and also the length of the article. The sources must be written by the experts. Then the author must use the authoritative source.

In conclusion , whatever the sources materials we choose we must seek for the validity and the originality of that materials. This is important because this can determine either the information and facts we used in our task is valid or not.So that , I hope with a little knowledge I share with you , will give some benefits for you in the future.

Preventing Plagiarism

Dandeputry  ~~

Hello guys , today I want to share about plagiarism. what is plagiarism ? I bet all students do plagiarism especially when doing some researches , laboratory reports and also assignments.

Plagiarism is something that you do which not comes by your own ideas or even by copying the words you can commit plagiarism. Not only students are not allowed on doing plagiarism , lecturers , journalists and reporters are also not encouraged doing plagiarism.

Why we are not encouraged to do plagiarism ? Plagiarism is wrong because we steal or copying from other people works and pass them off as your own. Set in our minds that everything we do , the originality of our works must be in high level. Originality is the main factor which can determine our level of achievement either we are good or poor.

We still can use books, website and other resources in order to complete our tasks but the used of the same words and ideas must be limited and the sentences must be different from the original resources you take. Mark, quote, and make a references list on the last page of our assignments to alert readers that we are quoting someone, and referring to other source in delivering our ideas. This will prevent readers from thinking that the ideas that had been delivered, is 100% ours, and for sure, this is a plagiarism.

To avoid plagiarism, summarize the text, article, chapter, or whatever we are referring to. Summarize means we condense the ideas we refer to, to a concisely text using our own words. Elaborate all the author's idea into our own version. Do not ever copying word by word, sentence by sentence from the original author. Paraphrasing works best with summary. When talking about paraphrase, it means we rewrite, or retell the author's word with our own word, without any differences in meaning.

Another way to avoid plagiarism is when we quoting someone. Quote means we fully take the author's words or statements, ONLY WITH the provided guidelines. Use the quotation mark ("...."),or proper words such as 'according to', when we are quoting someone. This will tell the readers that we are quoting someone, the words are from someone else, not us. We also must state the original source of the text that we are taking, ie the author's name. There are several formats that we should follow when we state the author's name, such as below :-

                  James(1986) state that "...."

                    According to James ......

So as the conclusion, we must avoid plagiarism. By plagiarism it shows that we are not serious in completing our tasks or assignment by copy pasting other's hard works and simply claims its as our works. It also shows that we are too lazy to do some research and study about our assignments. By researching and present our works in the way above will help us to understand more and gain more knowledge, knowing that knowledge is the most important thing of all.
